The Campus Outdoor Warning System for the Pullman Campus
As one element of the WSU ALERT system, the University has installed five outdoor warning siren/public address units on the Pullman campus in the summer of 2007.
In the event of an emergency which urgently threatens the safety of persons outdoors, the University may sound the sirens. The siren tones are designed to be quite loud, distinct and the sound will carry throughout the campus and Pullman and should be easily heard by those outdoors on campus.
These siren/public address units are designed to be heard OUTDOORS ONLY. While some personnel on campus may be able to hear the sirens indoors, that was not the primary intention. The pre-recorded and live public address announcements that will follow the siren tones are prone to echoing amongst the buildings on campus and how well you will be able to understand the messages will depend on your location. All possible adjustments have been made to the system to improve the intelligibility of the voice messages, and we are aware that in some areas of campus the messages can be very difficult to understand.
Regardless if you can comprehend the voice instructions, the default action anytime the siren is sounded is to:
TAKE SHELTER AND SEEK FURTHER INFORMATION FROM OTHER WSU ALERT RESOURCES!
